Local Government Association consulting on devolved employment and skills service

The Local Government Association (LGA) is consulting on a plan to integrate and devolve employment and skills services. LGA recently published the document Work Local: our vision for an integrated and devolved employment, and are now consulting on the proposals made within it.

Their report notes that the UK has one of the most centralised employment and skills systems in the developed world – with the government and its agencies directly responsible for employment and skills policy, design, funding and oversight. The report proposes a new service, Work Local, which will be organised at the level of combined authorities and groups of councils. This will simplify and align a myriad of existing boundaries in order to create a coherent system, both locally and nationally.

To contribute to AGCAS’ response to this consultation, please submit the form below to Samantha Woodman by Friday 25 August 2017.
