Vacancies on the Legal Profession Task Group

The AGCAS Legal Profession Task Group (LPTG) is seeking to recruit two new members.

About the task group

The group currently comprises five full time members and we meet two or three times a year (usually in the Spring, June and December) to keep up to date with the changes in the profession and to discuss issues affecting graduate recruitment ranging from diversity, to application procedures to qualification routes.  We are supported in our endeavours by wide representation from others in the legal sector who also attend the open part of our meetings. Through these meetings, we have established close working relationships with representatives from the Bar Standards Board, the Bar Council, the SRA, The Law Society, the Council of the Inns of Court, legal publishers, law firms and legal education providers.

The legal sector is undergoing a considerable amount of change at present and this has kept the LPTG very busy. With the planned roll out of the SQE and the Future Bar Training initiative, we expect it to continue to remain so.  It is therefore important that any new member have the full support of their Head of Service in allowing them to make a full contribution to this group.

In this last year our activities have included:  formal responses to two major consultations on the SQE and one on Future Bar Training, working with the SRA on a guidance “toolkit” for the introduction of SQE, running a successful training event on future qualification changes at the AGACS Biennial in Nottingham and attending the Bar Council Pupillage Fair. On occasion, these have required LPTG members to work at weekends and in the evenings.

What we are looking for

We are an active and enthusiastic group and are keen to welcome new members who share our interest in the legal profession and in supporting students to secure careers in this field.

Of the two members, we are looking for at least one to be working in a geographical area of the country not currently covered by existing members.

Interested?

Please feel free to contact Juliet Tomlinson, with any questions you might have about the task group or for an informal conversation.

How to apply

If you are interested in becoming a member of the LPTG, please submit a short statement (no more than 700 words), explaining your interest in the joining the group, any relevant experience including your attendance at previous LPTG events and what you believe you could contribute.

Please email your statement along with your CV to Juliet Tomlinson by 5pm on Monday 12 February 2018

We aim to communicate the outcome to the successful members by Tuesday 27 February 2018 at the latest. The next meeting will take place in London on Thursday 14th June and we hope the new members will be able to join us.
