ScotGrad wins AGR Work Experience Programme Award

Scotgrad, a Scottish graduate programme helping university and college graduates find paid placements, was awarded the Association of Graduate Recruiters Work Experience Programme Award 2014 at the recent AGR Student Recruitment Awards ceremony.

Enhancing graduate employability

Launched in 2010, ScotGrad aims to enhance graduate employability prospects by providing recent graduates with paid, project-based work experience, whilst stimulating business growth by adding graduate talent to enable projects to happen faster, bigger and better.

With a success rate of 92% of placements leading to graduate-level employment, ScotGrad has a clear impact on increasing graduate employability. Employers also report increased turn-over as a result of the placement projects which are based around innovation, internationalisation and business productivity themes. These have a significant impact on business growth such that over 70% of employers have offered their graduate a permanent position after the placement.

Recognition of excellence

The award recognises excellence for a work experience programme that demonstrates the greatest benefits to both the employer and participant, which ScotGrad successfully showed through impressive statistics and 'user reviews'.

The awards ceremony gala dinner took place at Liverpool Cathedral, where three members of the ScotGrad team were presented with their award by comedian Ruby Wax and Piran Littleton, Managing Director of WeConnectStudents and the Award sponsor.

David Surtees, Convenor of AGCAS Scotland, said:

"Winning the AGR work experience award is a recognition of ScotGrad's contribution to graduate employment and further proof of the programme's quality. Careers advisers recognise the career development potential of working for smaller companies available through ScotGrad as the current graduate labour market is more diverse that it was ten years ago.

ScotGrad has established itself as the premier graduate placement scheme in the country and has become a significant way of linking graduates with fast-growing businesses. The programme provides invaluable work experience for graduates and a way to demonstrate their talent to prospective employers, and the number of interns who are offered permanent jobs shows this aspect of the programme is working well."
