    Shortlist announced for the 2017 AGCAS Award for Careers Service Engagement

    Six employers have been shortlisted for the AGCAS Award for Careers Service Engagement 2016 following nominations by AGCAS-member higher education careers services. The award is one of the prestigious annual TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards.

    The British Academy – call for evidence

    The British Academy for the humanities and social science has initiated a flagship project on the skills inherent to the study of arts, humanities and social science (AHSS) and the contribution that individuals with those skills make to society and the economy. They have produced a summary and initial analysis of key evidence on AHSS skills.

    Nominations open for TARGETjobs AGCAS award 2017

    Nominations are now open for the AGCAS Award for Careers Service Engagement, part of the TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards 2017. The award recognises those employers who provide outstanding support for careers services' work with students and graduates. AGCAS member services are invited to nominate one employer (of any size and from any sector) who has demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively to ensure that students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and experience that will allow them to enter, thrive in, and gain satisfaction from the world of work.

    AGCAS research into students' experience of careers fairs

    In 2015, the universities of Birmingham, Royal Holloway and Salford took part in a pilot project run by members of the AGCAS Research Group.

    The research sought to gain a better understanding of what students gain from careers fairs in terms of information-gathering, opportunities for self-reflection, concrete links to employers, and applications and interview advice.

    AGCAS Awards for Excellence: 2016 shortlists announced

    The shortlisted nominations for the AGCAS Awards for Excellence 2016 have been announced. This year saw a high number of entries, with 48 AGCAS member services nominated for a broad range of activities across the full range of HE careers and employability work. The standard of the initiatives submitted has been exceptional. In the end, 23 institutions have been shortlisted for the 8 Service Awards.

    Vacancy for a liaison officer in the construction industry

    AGCAS is seeking a new liaison officer (ALO) for CITB, the national training organisation for construction in the UK. CITB has a strategic priority regarding the image and recruitment of the construction industry for professional, management and technical careers. They view the graduate and higher education arena as integral to the success of the sector, as well as providing a variety of opportunities to entrants.

    Developing your Global Career webinar series

    In Spring 2016 the Midlands International Group, a consortium of 16 universities, delivered a webinar series consisting of 13 online events targeted at international students. The sessions were supported by funding from UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) and careers professionals from across the region worked with employers and alumni to run a week of online sessions, which were designed to prepare for students for the global job market.

    From mock interviews to mastering recruitment practice

    Calli Amiras, Deputy Director of the Professional Development Centre and Head of Careers at Brunel University, is proud that Brunel was the first university careers service in the UK to use video interviewing. The careers service initially introduced Sonru's video interviewing as an interview preparation tool for students, but in practice its usage has extended far beyond their original intentions.

    J. P. Morgan wins TARGETjobs AGCAS award

    J.P. Morgan has won the AGCAS Award for Careers Service Engagement at the 2016 TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards. J.P. Morgan was nominated by Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) for its programme supporting students from low income backgrounds to achieve their full potential.
