Guidance Skills (Advanced), Warwick

  1. Mon 22 May 17

    Fri 26 May 17

    This course is now FULL

    This five-day residential course aims to expand the professional competence of experienced careers advisers by equipping them with the knowledge, structure and higher-level skills necessary to implement a counselling approach to guidance intervention.

    Who is it for?
    It is intended for experienced careers advisers who regularly provide one-to-one guidance and who are already competent and confident practitioners. This course is suitable for those who are interested in reviewing their current practice and developing new perspectives and skills.

    By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
    • apply a theoretical base to one-to-one guidance practice;
    • evaluate existing skills;
    • identify areas for further development;
    • demonstrate appropriate skills and strategies to enable clients to make decisions
    (with particular emphasis on difficult issues for clients);
    • incorporate reflection and review into future professional development.

    The course is delivered by The University of Warwick in collaboration with AGCAS; it is an optional module of the CEIGHE MA/PG Diploma. CEIGHE registrants are supported by materials and resources from both the AGCAS and The University of Warwick’s websites.

    Whilst the course is attended by registrants as part of the AGCAS/Warwick CEIGHE qualification it is also open to non-registrants whose course support and materials will be provided solely by AGCAS.

    The Guidance Skills (Advanced) training team recommends reading the 'Tips for Managers' document below and bringing it to the attention of your manager once you are offered a place on the course.

    There is a two-stage process for getting a place on this course:  Please complete and return the application form below for assessment for suitability by the course trainer.  Once your application is approved you'll be offered a place and will then be advised on how to book.

    Here's what some previous participants had to say:

    “Absolutely brilliant - a big range of subjects covered, plenty of time for discussion, and I found the tutorials very useful too.”

    “Good mix of both analytical and emotional training to work better with clients.”

    “I just wanted to say that the tutors were brilliant and thank you for all their effort, support, knowledge and understanding.”
