Professional Identity, Partnership and Practice, London
Wed 14 Jun
This one-day conference is aimed at staff engaged in supporting and developing research students (PhDs) and research staff. Our theme this year centres on the professional identity of career development staff and how to set up and engage with effective working partnerships.
Our keynote speaker, Nalayini Thambar, will start the day with a combined presentation and interactive workshop entitled, “The expert’s expert: the challenges of professional identity in a specialised world”. Nalayini is Director of Careers and Employability at the University of Nottingham and Quality Director for AGCAS and, as a result of her DBA research experience, will provide a dual perspective of significant relevance to staff working with researchers.
Please see the attachment below for Nalayini's full workshop description and biography
Building on the keynote, the conference is an opportunity for participants to reflect on their own professional identity, as well as developing new partnerships through networking and practice-sharing with the community. There will be a practice session examining effective ways of working with PhD and Postdoc researchers as well as a panel discussion with a range of stakeholders/ partners from researchers and supervisors to academics and employers and a workshop on pedagogy examining effective approaches for researcher client groups.
Delegates are invited to contribute to the ‘Practice in action’ session around the themes of the conference (professional practice and partnership), giving a powerpoint presentation or poster (see attached guidelines).
