Careers in social enterprise, Sheffield

  1. Fri 08 Jun

The aim of this AGCAS NE Regional training day is to look into how can social enterprise support the career development of our students and what career opportunities can they offer? And how can this type of activity develop and consolidate employability skills?

This event will give practitioners the opportunity to share ideas and good practice, and reflect on how social enterprise and related community engagement can build self-awareness, opportunity awareness and enhance students' career development whatever their chosen career path.

We will utilise a combination of input from speakers and regional social enterprise networks, case studies and interactive exercises. Participants will also have the chance to bring and share their own best practice and any resources that they already use.

Our guest speakers, including regional Social Enterprise Networks, social entrepreneurs and enterprise specialists, will be exploring the core principles of social enterprise, and discussing practical elements ranging from community impact and networking to funding and building markets.

We will look at the support available to students and graduates in setting up a social enterprise and the skills needed to maintain and develop it. We will also look at how regional networking and collaboration will help students and graduates establish their social enterprise in a sustainable manner.

We will also touch upon current strategic approaches within the HE sector to embrace social enterprise as a developmental opportunity for students and as a means of enhancing the engagement of HEIs with their local communities.
