MCAN seeks new members

The AGCAS Medical Careers Advisers' Network (MCAN) currently has vacancies on the group. MCAN is a welcoming, helpful and practical task group who meet three times a year to share best practice, discuss changes in medical training and organise networking events (and occasional conferences) aimed at those who work with medical students and doctors in training from a careers perspective, from across the UK. MCAN includes both HE careers advisers and those who work for deaneries and the group is eager to keep this breadth of experience and perspective within the membership.

The group in its newest formation first met via teleconference on 31 October 2012 to discuss proposed activities for the coming year.




Temporary roles on the AGCAS Skills Awards Task Group

Two maternity leave vacancies have arisen on the AGCAS Skills Awards Task Group: one position until October 2014 and the other until December 2014. The task group is very active and is currently in the process of organising a national Skills Awards Conference, to be held on 17 June. In addition, they also provide webinars for members and contribute to national work on skills awards, including the recent QAA Recognising Achievement Beyond the Curriculum Toolkit.




AGCAS survey: enterprise and entrepreneurial support

At this time of the year, thoughts turn to preparing materials, workshops and online content. During the last few months, the AGCAS Careers Education Task Group has been scouting around for examples of good practice and has recently launched a new collection of resource sheets. These bring together different approaches used by HE careers service colleagues to help students analyse and articulate their skills.




What Do Graduates Do? 2013 version now available

The 2013 edition of What Do Graduates Do? has been published. What Do Graduates Do? is a collaboration between the AGCAS Education Liaison Task Group and HECSU. The research shows the destinations of 242,285 first degree graduates and 81,650 postgraduates in January 2013 - six months after they had left university. This year's report features unprecedented data on postgraduate destinations.
