Shortlist for employer award announced

The shortlist has been announced for an award for graduate recruiters.The AGCAS Award is for the Outstanding Contribution to Developing Employability and Skills in the Curriculum and is one of GTI's TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards.




GTI acquires Hobsons division
The careers publisher Group GTI has agreed to purchase the UK and German graduate recruitment divisions of Hobsons plc.




TARGETjobs Awards night - win free tickets
The TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards 2009 takes place in May and once again AGCAS is supporting one of the awards. The university that provides the greatest number of student/graduate votes will receive two free tickets to the event.

Chris Phillips' web seminar wins new AGCAS award

Chris Phillips, Publishing Director at Group GTI, has been announced as the winner of a new AGCAS award for his workshop on writing for the web. The John Franks Award, sponsored by Yorkshire and Humberside Heads of Service in memory of their colleague John Franks, who sadly died in service in Spring 2008, is awarded to the best workshop delivered at AGCAS Biennial.

Parental influence research: survey for AGCAS members

GTI Media and AGCAS are collaborating on a research project to examine how, when and how far parents influence their children's choice of university, degree course, career and employer.

AGCAS members are encouraged to complete the short survey aimed at careers and employability staff, which will complement the larger studies undertaken with students and parents.

The AGCAS Award for Excellence in Careers Service Engagement will be awarded to the employer or organisation who has developed or sustained good working relationships with AGCAS member services over the last year.

HBJ Gateley Wareing win careers service engagement award

Law firm HBJ Gateley Wareing has won the AGCAS Award for Excellence in Careers Service Engagement at the TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards 2011. They were presented with their award by Anne-Marie Martin, AGCAS President, at the awards dinner in London on 31 March.

Doubling of students using careers services for networking: GTI survey

Heads of higher education careers and employability services were treated to a sneak preview of important survey findings at their annual conference in Cardiff last week. GTI Media's employability survey was a follow-up to one carried out six years ago and it showed some fascinating changes. Students and recent graduates were asked a series of questions about how well their university (and, specifically, their careers and employability service) had prepared them for life after university.

For the ninth time, AGCAS has been invited by GTI to judge an award at the annual TARGETjobs National Graduate Recruitment Awards to be presented at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London on Wednesday 3 April 2013. SME research - GTI survey live

GTI Media is about to start a major research project with STEP to survey the views of UK small businesses towards graduates and the opportunities for them to have productive careers in smaller businesses. The project team hopes to establish contact with organisations that have taken graduates on before (for either permanent positions or work experience), or those which are thinking about doing so in the future - and invites AGCAS members to help promote the survey amongst the small businesses HE careers services have contact with.

GTI has changed the name of targetcourses.co.uk to targetpostgrad.com to more specifically reflect the course content on the site - postgraduate qualifications rather than generic courses - and also in order to be more relevant to an international audience.

TARGETjobs Careers Report
The TARGETjobs Careers Report is a self-assessment and matching tool. It uses questionnaires and psychometric tests to explore students' interests, strengths, personality and abilities. It has been designed by GTI in collaboration with: John Hannon, National University of Ireland, Galway; Dave Kilmartin, Dublin Institute of Technology; and cut-e, the psychometric test specialists. 




Great expectations: How good are universities at making their students more employable?

This survey examines how well universities and the 'university experience' prepare students for life after graduation - and what could be done better. Over 2,300 students participated in the survey, which looked at both their expectations and their experience of how their university, and specifically their careers service, contribute to their employability.

This survey examines students' attitudes to undertaking postgraduate study: what drives them to consider postgraduate study; what influences their choice of institution; and how they plan to finance their studies.
