New appointments have been made to the AGCAS Board to replace this year's outgoing directors. The new board of directors took office on 1 August 2010.

Election to AGCAS Board of Directors

Following the recent advertisement for a Director of Products and Services to serve on the AGCAS Board, from 1st August 2011 to 31st July 2014, nominations were received from two members. In accordance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association of AGCAS, an election is being held. Associate Members of AGCAS are now invited to vote to decide which nominee should be elected.




AGCAS announces Board election result

Following the recent poll of Associate Members of AGCAS, Jane Standley, Director of the Placement and Careers Centre at Brunel University, has been elected as the next Director of Products and Services on the AGCAS Board. Jane will take up her position on 1 August 2011 and will serve for a period of three years.

Jane will be joined on the Board by incoming AGCAS President-Elect, Paul Redmond, Head of Careers and Employability at the University of Liverpool. Paul will take up his position as AGCAS President from 1 August 2012.




AGCAS bids farewell to Margaret

Margaret Dane has retired after almost 10 years as AGCAS Chief Executive. Her membership of AGCAS spans 34 years, including three as AGCAS President, as well as serving periods of office on a wide range of sub-committees and working groups.

The AGCAS Board is in the process of reviewing the structure of AGCAS to ensure that it continues to be as effective over the next ten years as it has in the last ten years. All AGCAS Heads of Service have received an invitation to participate in the initial stages of planning this future.

AGCAS is looking for an enthusiastic member to join its Board of Directors in the role of Company Secretary. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the strategic management of AGCAS and to help the organisation make key decisions about its future development, especially how it can best support member services. The role of Company Secretary involves a number of administrative, legal and statutory responsibilities. A full induction will be given, however, and there is plenty of support available both from experienced AGCAS staff and from other members of the AGCAS Board.




AGCAS announces new Company Secretary

Sue Spence, Careers Adviser at the Careers and Employability Service at the University of Huddersfield, will be the new AGCAS Company Secretary. Sue will take up her position on the AGCAS Board of Directors with immediate effect and will serve for a period of three years.

The deadline for nominations for the position of Plenary Representative on the AGCAS Board of Directors has been extended to Friday 25 May 2012. This position is an excellent opportunity for any head of service who would like to play an important part in ensuring that the association continues to serve well all AGCAS-member higher education careers and employability services and the staff who work in them.

Re-election for AGCAS Vice-President

A record number of votes was received in the recent election for a Vice-President to serve on the AGCAS Board 1 August 2012 - 31 July 2015. We would like to thank all Full Members of AGCAS who voted for your interest and participation. This has resulted in a tie position between Terry Dray and Jenny Owen, who each received an equal number of votes. We now need to ask Full Members to vote again to decide who should be elected.

New president for AGCAS

Paul Redmond, Head of Careers and Employability at the University of Liverpool, has taken up his post as the new AGCAS President. Paul takes over the role from outgoing president Anne-Marie Martin, who served during a period of challenges and change - in the economy, in the job market and in the higher education sector. Paul will be setting out his priorities for AGCAS for the coming year during the next couple of months.




Eluned Jones announced as AGCAS President-Elect

Following the recent election for the role of President-Elect, Eluned Jones, Director of Student Employability at the University of Birmingham, has been elected to the AGCAS Board. Eluned will take up the position with immediate effect and fulfil the role of President-Elect until the end of July. This will lead to the commencement of a two-year term of office as AGCAS President from 1st August 2014.




AGCAS welcomes new members to the Board

We are delighted to announce the appointment of three new members to the AGCAS Board of Directors: Shelagh Green, Andrew Falconer and Stuart Johnson.

Each will each serve a term of three years, commencing 1st December 2014. Thanks are due to our outgoing Vice-President, Jenny Blakesley, for her invaluable contribution and support over the past two-and-a-half years.

Following the recent election for a new AGCAS Director of Professional Development, we are delighted to announce that Sue Spence, Careers Adviser at the University of Huddersfield and current AGCAS Company Secretary, has been elected to the role.




Vacancy for Treasurer on the AGCAS Board of Directors

Nominations are invited from Full Members of AGCAS for the position of Treasurer on the AGCAS Board of Directors. The role involves responsibility for AGCAS financial policy and ensuring financial policy reflects agreed objectives and would suit a member with knowledge of and an interest in finance.




Vacancy for the role of AGCAS President-Elect

Nominations are invited from Full Members of AGCAS for the post of President-Elect on the AGCAS Board of Directors. The duration of this role is approximately six months, leading to the commencement of a two-year term of office as AGCAS President from 1st August 2014. Within the overarching responsibilities there is significant scope and opportunity for the President to undertake and fashion the role to meet his or her own style, strengths and interests. 

 




Introducing Eluned Jones, new AGCAS President

Eluned Jones, Director of Student Employability at the University of Birmingham, has taken up her post as AGCAS President. Eluned takes over the role from outgoing president Dr Paul Redmond, whose vision and commitment over the past two years has helped raise the profile of AGCAS and steer the national graduate employability agenda.




AGCAS Board vacancy: Director of Communications

The AGCAS Board has recently opted to reinstate the role of Director of Communications. Nominations are now invited from Full Members of AGCAS, ideally with a background in and/or awareness of corporate communications/the commercial sector, who can demonstrate their suitability for the role.

The Director of Communications will work closely with the AGCAS Communications Manager to promote, develop and monitor the AGCAS communications portfolio, and to make strategic recommendations to the wider Board. The term of office is three years.

Mark Stow elected AGCAS Director of Communications

Following the recent election for the role of AGCAS Director of Communications, Mark Stow, Head of Careers and Employability at the University of Lincoln, has been elected to the AGCAS Board. Mark will take up the position with immediate effect.

The emphasis of both roles, as with all Board positions, is on strategic input and direction, representation and profile-raising.




New AGCAS President-Elect appointed

AGCAS is pleased to announce that Shelagh Green has been appointed as AGCAS President-Elect. Shelagh will serve as President-Elect for one year, leading to the commencement of a two-year term of office as AGCAS President from 1st August 2016.

Sue Bennett appointed AGCAS Vice-President

AGCAS is delighted to announce that Sue Bennett, Director of Student Careers and Skills at The University of Warwick, has been appointed to the role of AGCAS Vice-President on the Board of Directors. Sue brings to the role a significant amount of experience in internationalisation. Most recently, this has included creating a contract between AGCAS and the British Council for the supply of IAG and employer engagement training to new careers service staff and their management in Kazakhstan.

Vacancy for Treasurer on the AGCAS Board of Directors

Nominations are invited from Full Members of AGCAS for the position of Treasurer on the AGCAS Board of Directors. The Treasurer oversees all financial matters of AGCAS in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing and legal requirements, reporting to the AGCAS Board about the financial health of the organisation. Principal duties include overseeing, approving and presenting budgets, accounts and financial statements/reports. The role involves close liaison with the AGCAS Business Manager.

Vacancy for Director of Research on the AGCAS Board

Nominations are invited from Full and Affiliate Members of AGCAS for the position of Director of Research on the AGCAS Board of Directors.

Principle duties include raising AGCAS's research profile, building strategic alliances and enhancing AGCAS's reputation. Assisting in the identification of income generating opportunities through research-based events and externally-funded research projects is also a feature of the role.




Launch of the new AGCAS Strategy
Building on the invaluable contribution of members, AGCAS has formulated its new strategy, which begins today and will run through to 2019. Following months of work and consultations we are absolutely delighted that the Board have approved the strategy and the changes that it will bring to AGCAS as an organisation.
