Supporting care leavers in HE

The AGCAS Diversity Task Group is in the process of devising a Good Practice Guide for Careers Professionals: Working with Care Leavers, which will be available in late spring. Here, Andy Howells, Careers Adviser at the Open University and a member of the task group, introduces the planned content for the guide.




Care leaver support: guide launched by AGCAS Diversity Task Group

A good practice guide for careers professional working with care leavers has been produced by the AGCAS Diversity Task Group. In the guide, Debbie Laing, Careers Adviser at the University of Huddersfield and a member of the task group, makes recommendations for how such students might be supported through university to achieve successful outcomes.




AGCAS Diversity Task Group: an update on activity

The AGCAS Diversity Task Group was formed in April 2010 to explore, share and develop good practice in relation to the diverse needs, backgrounds and aspirations of a varied client group. During this time, the group has focused on a range of ways to develop services and resources.

This guide, produced by the AGCAS Diversity Task Group, aims to help careers professionals consider some of the issues faced by students at university who have been in care. It provides recommendations for how such students might be supported through their time at university to achieve successful outcomes.




Diversity Matters

AGCAS Diversity Matters, produced in collaboration with GTI Media, is targeted primarily at graduate jobseekers but will be useful to anybody interested in employment and diversity, whether as someone directly affected by the issues it addresses or in a professional capacity.

This resource pack, produced by the AGCAS Disability Task Group, is designed around a 'frequently asked questions' format. It provides assistance based around some of the key issues that careers advisers may have questions or concerns about when dealing with disabled students and graduates.




Working with disabled students and graduates - case studies

The AGCAS Disability Task Group has collated a series of case studies from members illustrating good practice in working with disabled students and graduates. All the case studies included are based on work with real clients, but have been anonymised.
